Welcome to the World of Elephants! This site is a window to the work of WEPA: a non-profit organization improving well-being and reliability of working elephants through a joint effort of Asian and Western experts and elephant handlers. WEPA develops animal-friendly methods for training and handling of elephants. These science-based methods provide an efficient and reliable alternative to the currently widespread methods in which inflicting pain is used as one of the ways of controlling elephants. WEPA also gives workshops for elephant handlers on how to further develop elephant management. Topics covered include handling techniques that improve the reliability and well-being of elephants, solving of behaviour problems, improved use of equipment, etc. |
What to Discover on This Site? If you are professionally involved with elephants, you may like to start with the descriptions of our methods for elephant training and handling. To find out more about our activities in the field, take a look at our workshops. If you are a journalist, you are welcome to use the resources in the Press Office. If you are an animal enthusiast willing to discover more about elephants, you are likely to enjoy the Photo Gallery taking you into the world of elephants, as well as the Facts and FAQ's sections. Wishing to do something to help the gentle grey giants? There are many ways in which you can become a part of the change for the better. See the You and Elephants section to select your favourite way of contributing. |
