Two of the key trainers involved in improving elephant training in Nepal: Chandra Man Tamang (on the left) and Dr. Andrew McLean. Mr. Tamang is the head of the government-owned elephant stables at Bardia National Park, and widely known in Nepal as a very skilled elephant trainer. Dr. McLean, the Head of Science and Training of WEPA, is an Australian scientist and animal trainer specializing in developing animal-friendly training methods. Within the framework of a co-operation between WEPA and the relevant government authority in Nepal, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, Mr. Tamang and Dr. McLean co-operate in applying and further developing the Positive Learning Method, an effective and animal-friendly elephant training method that has been developed at WEPA under the lead of Dr. McLean.
