Information on the Photo Below

Tourists enjoying a shower by an elephant. Methods for handling elephants vary, and some mahouts (handlers) are a lot gentler than others. What tourists do not usually know is that the standard methods for training the elephants to do their work is based on a widespread belief that controlling an elephant is only possible by using force and inflicting pain. The reason behind this is not necessarily cruelty, but often unawareness of the existence of alternatives. Working Elephant Programme of Asia (WEPA) promotes a science-based, animal-friendly method for training and handling as a constructive solution.
